WAR(NING), 2016 (military camo pants, concrete) installation in the public space of Lublin #vova_vorotniov
Lublin is the Eastern Gate not only of Poland, but in some way of what is known as Europe. In the old Castle there is a Catholic gothic church painted in Orthodox manner from inside. The bus station serves as a first stop for the coaches from Ukraine, heading to Warsaw or elsewhere westwards. The proximity to the post-Soviet space is nearly physical.
The annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbas, that exploded in 2014, had thrown Ukraine back from its peaceful decades to the true nature of the Soviet/post-Soviet political reality. The reality, where the rifle, which hangs on the wall, will always shoot. In our social fabric we had the 'Afghans' (veterans of the USSR campaign in Afghanistan 1979-1989), the participants of different armed conflicts from Transnistria to Tchetchenia. However, evidently we've been entitled to our peace times and the war did come as a surprise.
The inscription WAR on the pavement, made with camouflage military pants, also attempted to showcase a straight bodily aspect of the war.
